About Eskişehir

Eskişehir (“Old City”) is the capital of Eskişehir Province in northwestern Turkey. Located along the Porsuk River in the fertile Phrygian Valley, the city is known for its rich cultural heritage, dynamic university community, and diverse industries. Three major universities contribute to its vibrant atmosphere, while its museums, historic neighborhoods, and modern infrastructure make it one of Turkey’s most livable cities.
Our Connection
Lansing’s relationship with Eskişehir began in 2022, when a delegation including LSRCC Commissioner Keith Lambert, Lansing Mayor Andy Schor, and Michigan State University representatives visited the city to explore opportunities for cultural, educational, and economic collaboration. During their time in Eskişehir, the delegation met with government officials, industry leaders, and cultural institutions, and toured key landmarks such as the Fairy Tale Castle, a wax sculpture museum, and the city’s interactive science center for children. These exchanges opened the door for future partnerships in student and teacher exchanges, contemporary art initiatives, museum programming, and economic development.
In 2024, Eskişehir’s mayor and a delegation traveled to Lansing to formalize the Sister City relationship. Their four-day visit included meetings with local technology innovators and manufacturers, the Lansing Turkish community, and leaders at Michigan State University. Highlights of the visit included a tour of the Michigan State Capitol, participation in the Silver Bells in the City festival, and a formal signing ceremony followed by a celebratory dinner with community leaders and LSRCC commissioners. Looking ahead, both cities are working to launch a Sister Schools exchange program, strengthen university partnerships, host a Turkish Children’s Day celebration in Lansing in 2026, and organize an economic forum and startup pitch competition in Eskişehir. These initiatives will continue to build mutual understanding, educational opportunity, and innovation between our communities.
