The Lansing Regional Sister Cities Commission proudly welcomes 10 high school students from our sister city of Asan, South Chungcheong Province, South Korea to the area for educational and cultural exchange February 2-23, 2014. Students will be based in Webberville, will attend Webberville High School and will travel throughout the region.

Webberville High School will host the students during regularly scheduled classes, including a special language exchange time during which they will partner with local students for help with English and the subjects of the day, while Webberville’s students meet with Dr. Sam Park, a teacher from Asan, for interaction in Korean. In addition, home stays with local families will support their introduction to the US and Michigan. Travel to Caberfae ski resort, Chicago and Frankenmuth is planned. Students will also be attending basketball games at the high school and MSU’s Breslin Center.

Local press and media are invited to meet students, families and commissioners during select planned activities (see below).

“The student program between our area and Asan strengthens and supports the Commission’s global linkages and furthers our mission of international understanding and cooperation,” said Commissioner Dr. Sung Lee. “But the real benefit is in the personal relationships the students build between themselves as classmates, friends and learners. This is the seed of future international cooperation being planted.”

The agreement between Lansing and Asan was established in Asan on February 3, 2006. Asan is an urban area near Seoul, and is home to factories producing for Hyundai and Samsung, in addition to five universities.
